A young man presented with a ball like swelling in the upper limb – a false aneurysm. The artery was dilated, painful, tender and pulsatile. The distal pulses at the wrist were present.
The enlarged blood vessel shown.
Dissection was done and the neck of the dilated artery isolated.
The neck dissected out and shown
The swelling was excised at the neck and the opening in the artery closed.
Repaired artery as shown.
This is done now with a covered stent across the opening in the artery. The aneurysm thrombosis because there is no flow now and the patient is discharged the following day.
